Lydia Celebrates Earth Day

Lydia celebrated Earth Day by enjoying the sunny weather today and spending some time outside. She was a little cold but couldn’t bear wearing a jacket, everyone here is more than ready for it to look and feel like spring.

For reference, this photo was taken in the same spot two days shy of exactly one year ago.

First Day of Spring

Did you know that today is the first day of spring?
Lydia and I decided to go outside and celebrate spring coming!

After running around in the snow for a while we decided to make snow angels.  We stood next to each other and on the count of three fell backwards.

After that we were covered and snow and starting to get cold so we decided to go inside for hot chocolate.

What does the first day of spring look like where you live?

Did you do anything special to celebrate?

Making Valentines

I love Valentine’s Day. What is not to love about a day where you get to tell family and friends how much they mean to you, plus pink is my favorite color.

I invited Lydia over so we could make valentines for our classmates. I told her I would be wearing my new dress and she should wear something special pink or with hearts. She told me I was being silly and protested, but when she arrived she was wearing the perfect dress.

After gathering all of our supplies we made plans for our valentines. I chose to use the brightest paper I could find, while Lydia went with the traditional pink and red.

We both decided that our valentines would have two hearts on each card. I have 27 kids in my class and Lydia has 26 in hers, which equals lots of hearts!

We carefully arranged and glued the hearts on each card.

After the glue dried we flipped the cards over and started to write out one card for each kid in our class.

While we were writing Cricket jumped up on the table. Even though he is not allowed on the table I thought it was funny that he wanted to supervise so I let him stay, until he started pawing at my marker!

Here we are with a few of our favorite cards ready to take to school.
Do you have a favorite way celebrate Valentine’s Day?

Christmas 2012

Right before Christmas we had a big snow storm. There was so much snow they closed schools and I was worried we might not be able to make it to my grandparents house in time for Christmas. As excited as I was for the time off of school I was happy to see lots of plows trucks clearing the roads.

Even with all the snow we were able to leave just like we had planned. I wanted to take a picture next to the snow to show my grandparents. The snow in front of our house was almost as tall as me!

While we were loading the car I had to play in the snow just a little before spending several hours sitting in the car.

When we got to my grandparents house my cousin Ce Ce was there waiting for me. My parents wanted to get a couple of pictures of us together, but we were so busy running around that none of them turned out.

Christmas morning there were two stocking waiting for us by the fire place. We were excited to see what was in them, but waited long enough to pose for one picture.

We each got a stuffy, a necklace, a headband and hair clips, a small toy and some candy.

We both got other presents to open. My family tried to take pictures while we were opening them, but we were so excited they didn’t have a chance. I did pose after we had opened everything. I got a new boots, a Rubik’s cube in my favorite colors, a sketch book and a leopard color by number set.

I am happy the snow didn’t change our plans. Does your family have winter holiday traditions?

Halloween 2012

I knew I wanted to trick-or-treat with my friend Lydia this year, so we decided we would dress up in coordinating costumes. We have been watching a lot of old sitcoms from the 80s and 90s recently, one day when we were watching the Punky Brewster show we had a light bulb moment and decided that we would go as Punky Brewster and Cherie Johnson!

Here we are on Halloween ready to start collecting candy.

We got a lot of complements on our costumes. A few people asked what we were dressed up as, but it seemed like they were asking everyone, even a little girl dressed up as a cat, so we decided they were just trying to make conversation.

After we were done collecting candy we were cold and happy to go back to my house to warm up. Look at all the candy I collected.

Once we were warm again we sat down to sort our candy. We each picked out our favorites and put them back in our buckets, then we traded the types we like, with the ones that we don’t like as much so we both ended up with the candy we like best.

Sometimes it is good when your friends like different things than you, especially when candy is involved.

After Lydia went home my parents told me they had a surprise for me, but I would have to trade most of my candy to get it.

After they promised me I would like the surprise, and if I didn’t I could trade back I agreed.

I am glad I agreed to trade because my surprise was the special Halloween Lalaloopsy I had been visiting and asking for every time we went to the store. I guess this is what they meant when the replied to my begging with “we’ll see.”

While I was looking at my new doll my kitty decided to investigate my candy. After I chased him out of the candy bucket my parents reminded me that I had to get up for school the next day and it was past my bed time. I was sad I had to go to bed, I had a great night and didn’t want it to end.
